What is Wise parenthood?Wise parenthood is a responsibility programme of Alko, Finland’s alcohol retail monopoly. The programme’s partners are the National Institute for Health and Welfare, a research and development institute under the Finnish Ministry of Social Affairs, the A–Clinic Foundation, which operates to reduce and care for alcohol, drug and other addiction problems, and the Mannerheim League for Child Welfare, a non-governmental organisation that promotes children’s rights. The Wise parenthood programme offers a new perspective instead of assigning blame. It challenges every adult to consider how even moderate use of alcohol by parents and adults will influence children’s lives. The programme’s aim is to prevent and reduce the harm arising to children from adults’ misuse of alcohol. Wise parenthood is a multi-year programme during which practical aids will be produced for the use of families and educators, and research on the subject encouraged. |
